Special Olympic athletes will sell white ceramic bracelets Wednesday, March 2, during all lunch hours and encourage students, staff and community members to take a pledge to end the “r word.” The reminder ceramic bracelets cost $75 and bear the campaign slogan chosen by kids at RFHS: “Pick another word.”
The High School mentorship group Connecting ALL Together Socially (CATS) and the Kinnickinnic Kids Special Olympics partnered together as sponsors of a campaign to discourage use of the word retard or retarded.
They say the word hurts not only people who have intellectual disabilities but also their families and friends.
